Albert Schweitzer Albert Schweitzer was a humanitarian, theologian, organist, and medical doctor. A Renaissance man, Schweitzer was a medical missionary in Africa, where he founded a hospital in French Equatorial Africa while writing major treatises on theological, musical, and philosophical issues. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 for his work.
